Drawn by Warren E. Troutman (son of Mrs. Bertha (Wenrich) and Hyla B. Troutman)
The design in general, was described in a letter by Warren E. Troutman which was read at the annual reunion of 1923.
The shield means defense and protection; the W standing for Wenrich; 1710, the year our forefathers came to this our Native Land. The Book is symbolic of the Family Record. The Aladdin Lamp or Lamp of Wisdom; Aladdin, a youth in "Arabian Nights" possessed this magic lamp and by rubbing it could get possession of whatever he wished. Looking over the list of occupations of the Wenrich's, it is noted that not a few seem to have the ability to rub this lamp, as they are leaders in their line of endeavor. But no matter, there is the steady gaze of the ever-watchful Eye of a Mighty Power. In that Eye, we may see approval of our great accomplishments or disapproval and pity for our follies, all depending on the way we use the lamp; if we use it to accomplish the things the three words stand for, we can always be sure to see great approval in the Eye.
